PRIVACY POLICY FOR MOT CHECK

INTRODUCTION

MOT Check (“we”, “our”, or “the app”) is committed to protecting your privacy. This Privacy Policy explains how we collect, use, and safeguard your information when you use our mobile application.

INFORMATION WE COLLECT

  1. Vehicle Information
  • Vehicle Registration Numbers: You provide vehicle registration numbers to search for MOT history information
  • Saved Vehicles: Vehicle data you choose to save in the app, including make, model, color, MOT test history, odometer readings, defects and advisories, maintenance records, fuel records, and vehicle documents
  1. Usage Data
  • In-app purchase information (managed by Apple’s StoreKit)
  • Crash reports and diagnostics (if enabled in your device settings)
  1. Notification Data
  • MOT reminder notification preferences
  • Notification timing settings

DATA STORAGE

All your data is stored locally on your device only. We do not:

  • Upload your vehicle data to any external servers
  • Create user accounts or profiles
  • Track your personal information
  • Sync your data across devices

Your data includes saved vehicles and their information, maintenance records, fuel records, documents and photos, and app preferences. All data is stored using iOS native storage mechanisms and remains on your device.

THIRD-PARTY SERVICES

  1. UK MOT History API
    We use the official UK government MOT History API to fetch vehicle information. The vehicle registration number is sent to the UK MOT History API to retrieve publicly available MOT test data. No personal information about you is transmitted.
  2. Apple App Store (StoreKit)
    For premium subscriptions, we use Apple’s StoreKit framework. Purchase transactions are processed by Apple. We do not collect or store your payment information.

SUBSCRIPTIONS

MOT Check offers the following auto-renewable subscription options:

  • Weekly Premium: $4.99 per week
  • Monthly Premium: $9.99 per month
  • Yearly Premium: $49.99 per year

Subscription Details:

  • Payment is charged to your Apple ID account at confirmation of purchase
  • Subscriptions automatically renew unless canceled at least 24 hours before the end of the current period
  • Your account will be charged for renewal within 24 hours prior to the end of the current period
  • You can manage and cancel subscriptions in your Apple ID Account Settings
  • No refunds are provided for unused portions of subscription periods
  • Any unused portion of a free trial period will be forfeited when you purchase a subscription
  • Subscriptions are processed and managed entirely by Apple; we do not have access to your payment information

Cancellation:
You can cancel your subscription at any time through iOS Settings → [Your Name] → Subscriptions. Cancellation takes effect at the end of the current billing period.

HOW WE USE YOUR INFORMATION

We use the collected information to:

  • Display MOT history and vehicle information
  • Store your saved vehicles locally
  • Send you MOT expiry reminders (if enabled)
  • Track maintenance history for your vehicles
  • Record fuel consumption data
  • Store vehicle-related documents
  • Verify subscription status for premium features

DATA SHARING

We do not sell, trade, or share your personal data with third parties. The only data transmission occurs when you search for a vehicle (registration number sent to UK MOT) or make an in-app purchase (handled by Apple).

DATA SECURITY

We implement appropriate security measures:

  • All data is stored locally on your device using iOS secure storage
  • Network requests use encrypted HTTPS connections
  • No server-side storage of your personal information
  • Your data is protected by your device’s security

YOUR RIGHTS AND CHOICES

You have complete control over your data:

  • View Your Data: All your data is accessible within the app
  • Delete Data: You can delete vehicles, maintenance records, or fuel logs at any time
  • Remove All Data: Uninstalling the app removes all locally stored data
  • Manage Notifications: Enable or disable MOT reminders in app settings
  • Manage Subscriptions: Through iOS Settings

CHILDREN’S PRIVACY

MOT Check does not knowingly collect information from children under 13. The app is intended for vehicle owners and drivers.

CHANGES TO THIS PRIVACY POLICY

We may update this Privacy Policy from time to time. We will notify you by updating the “Last Updated” date and displaying an in-app notification for significant changes.

DATA RETENTION

Since all data is stored locally on your device:

  • Data persists until you manually delete it or uninstall the app
  • Uninstalling the app permanently removes all local data
  • We do not retain any data on external servers

INTERNATIONAL USERS

The app uses UK MOT data and is designed for UK vehicle registrations. Data storage and processing occur on your local device only.
